Four candidates filed their candidate financial reports after the noon deadline in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office on Monday, April 22.
It was noted that all candidates turned them in on Monday, but it was after noon. Culver Town Council at-Large Libertarian candidate Joel Samuelson and Culver Town Council at-Large Democratic candidate Susan McInturff filed late as well as Argos Clerk-Treasurer Republican candidate Lisa Mullaney and Lapaz Clerk-Treasurer Republican candidate Michelle Schmidt.
Clerk Deb Vandemark said the paperwork is often confusing for candidates as some don’t realize that the proper documents need to be filed whether or not any money was collected or spent for their campaign. No money was documented on the paperwork filed by these candidates in the clerk’s office.
Vandemark stressed that all late documents appeared to be in line with no issues.
Typically, a $50 fine would be assessed for tardy reports, but since all of the candidates turned in their reports on the due date and within a short time frame from the deadline, Board Member Ralph Huff made a motion to issue them a public reprimand of their action without a fine. If any of the same candidates file the same paperwork past the deadline in the fall, then they will be assessed a fine. The motion was seconded and passed with a unanimous vote.
