A recent aggressive and impaired driving enforcement period kept officers from the Culver Police Department busy.
Officers participating in the 24-day mobilization issued 42 traffic citations and warnings. They joined 230 other police agencies across Indiana to crack down on impaired and aggressive driving.
Crash statistics included failing to yield to the right-of-way, following too closely, unsafe lane movements, unsafe speed, unsafe speed for weather conditions, disregarding a traffic signal or sign, and improper passing, turning or lane usage.
Culver Police Department Deputy Chief Chad Becker asks drivers to watch for bicyclists and pedestrians while out on the roads and designate a sober driver.
Impaired driving isn’t limited to alcohol. Officers find that some drivers are under the influence of prescription or illegal drugs. Over-the-counter medication can also cause impairment if combined with alcohol or a second type of medication.
The overtime traffic enforcement is funded through National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grants administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
