Five people were taken to hospitals, after an SUV reportedly crashed into a Union-North United School Corporation bus. Indiana State Police say it happened around 7:50 Monday morning near 20884 Pierce Road near Lakeville.

Officers say the bus had just picked up students and was pulling away from the bus stop, when it was hit from behind by a 2005 Ford Expedition. The bus was carrying 20 students at the time of the crash.

Police say four kids were taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Two nine-year-old boys, a five-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old girl were all treated for minor injuries and released. The driver of the SUV, Lee Motz, 28, of Bourbon, was reportedly taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers say they’re still investigating, but they don’t think drugs or alcohol were factors. The crash had Pierce Road closed for more than three hours Monday morning. State Police were assisted by St. Joseph County Police, North Liberty Police, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
