Triton Superintendent Provides Clarification About New Study Hall Procedures

New study hall procedures at Triton were discussed during last week’s school board meeting.

Superintendent Jeremy Riffle mentioned that officials recently made some changes to ensure study hall time was being utilized as effectively as possible.

He noted, “We’re going from a 55 minute study hall in a large room with 40 to 60 students and actually making the change to what they call an SLC which is a Student Learning Community to where there would be only be 15 to 20 students.”

A few students were in attendance at the meeting, looking for some clarification since the new study hall system would result in about 3 and half hours of study hall time during the week, as opposed to the 5 hours that was provided in the past.

Superintendent Riffle indicated that difference in time is made up for with the increased focus on assisting each student more directly.

He explained, “Kids that are struggling in math, hey would actually be in the Math SLC so they can actually receive more direct instruction from the instructor instead of being in a huge study hall where they may be working on calculus and the study hall monitor doesn’t have any idea how to do calculus.

Superintendent Riffle said he was glad the students came out to get some clarification and respectfully voice their concerns. He noted that after providing them with an explanation, they seemed to understand the reasoning behind the switch.
