Plans are being made to ensure that “TGIF Argos” events can start this summer.
Argos Library Director Jane Hall told council members last week that organizers are interested in holding the events on the second Friday in June, July, August and September.
She noted that they originally planned to hold the events on the fourth Friday but changed the day in order to avoid conflicting with Bourbon’s Food Truck Fridays.
She said the inaugural event in June will feature the Better World Book Truck and July’s event will have a balloon artist. Hall explained that efforts are also being made to book at least 4 musical performances and said that about $1,000 is needed to hire the talent.
Hall noted that private donations are being accepted but she also asked the Town Council if they were planning to earmark money for ‘TGIF Argos’. Members didn’t indicate whether they were planning to do so or not.
However, a representative from the Argos Community Development Corporation (ACDC) was present and noted that since they’ve been talking with organizers about helping with insurance for the events, the possibility of donating the $1,000 for entertainment could also be considered at a future ACDC meeting.
Talks between event organizers and Argos officials will continue in the coming months.
