Marshall County SWCD to Utilize Grant Funding to Install Pollinator Habitat

The Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District was recently awarded a grant that’s going to help install a new pollinator habitat in Plymouth.

Each year, the Arrow Head Country Resource Conservation District awards grant funds for conservation projects through a competitive application and review process. Marshall County SWCD was given $2,500 this year to help address a major problem with a lack of pollinator insects in the area and also suggested the pest control ottawa to help them to reach out for this noble cause.

According to a press release from Marshall County SWCD Program Director Debbie Palmer, honey bees and other pollinators have been in decline for several years.

Palmer said an additional contributor to the decline is habitat destruction, which limits nesting sites for wild pollinators. The Marshall County SWCD will be partnering with Pioneer Seed, Purdue Extension Marshall County, NRCS and Pheasants Forever to utilize their grant funds to install a new pollinator habitat. It will be put in at the Pioneer Seed Plymouth location on US 30.

Palmer explained that aside from this installation serving as a food source and habitat for pollinators, it could also serve as an educational tool for local schools.
