Officials with the Marshall County Community Corrections organization plan to apply for a grant through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for a piece of equipment in the Probation Department.
Director Ward Byers reminded the Marshall County Council members of a request two year ago to appropriate money for an iTouch livescan fingerprinting machine for the Probation Department to ensure compliance with a law that requires every person convicted of a crime to be fingerprinted. At that time, the council members suggested that funding should be sought through grant funding. Byers said he has found a grant that would supply funding for the needed equipment.
“The grant request in andof itself is for $20,000 and there is no match,” explained Byers. “We made it for $20,000 to help cover any peripheral costs to it such as any additional internet or phone lines that need to be ran down to the Probation Department where it will be housed. It comes with the three year warranty on the unit itself. We would be able to purchase that off the state bid.”
If there are any additional costs outside the grant, they would be paid for by user fees from Community Corrections or the Probation Department.
The council unanimously approved the grant application request.
