Some Marshall County communities are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for road improvements.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced the recipients of the winter round of Community Crossings matching grants. Marshall County was awarded $997,500. The county’s projects include Dogwood Road from State Road 331 to the county line, 11th Road from U.S. 31 to South Michigan, North Michigan Road from the city limits to Veteran’s Parkway, and 9B Road from Union Road to the county line. Meanwhile, Bremen received almost $448,000, and Bourbon got just under $296,000.
Under the state’s Community Crossings Initiative, larger communities have to provide a 50-percent local match, while smaller ones have to pay 25 percent. INDOT says it received 229 grant applications in this latest round, and 189 cities, towns, and counties ended up being awarded a combined $115 million. State officials expect to have another $100 million available for the summer call for projects.
