Confidence Boosting Program for Girls Highlighted at Bremen School Board Meeting

A presentation about the organization “Girls on the Run” was provided at a recent Bremen School Board meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White said school officials learned how elementary and middle school girls participate in the program, which involves them learning soft skills about confidence and self-esteem.

In addition to gaining those skills, they join up with other groups in the summertime to run a half marathon.

This year’s race will be held on Saturday, May 11th at the Four Winds Field in South Bend.

Bremen is one of the many schools that participate in the Michiana chapter of Girls on the Run, however, it is an international organization.

According to organization officials, young girls face social pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be. The goal of the program is to inspire young ladies to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
