Argos Town Council Holds First Reading Over Downtown Parking Ordinance

The first reading over an ordinance that would regulate downtown parking was held at Wednesday night’s Argos Town Council meeting.

The proposed policy would put a 2-hour parking limit in place and prohibit overnight parking between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Town Attorney Derek Jones noted that the areas impacted by this policy would include Michigan Street from Smith to Williams and Walnut Street from Maple to First.

Rather than considering it as an entirely new ordinance, Jones suggested adding these rules into a section of their existing traffic code ordinance. He explained that if they do it that way, no additional changes will have to be made the ordinance violations code.

Though members passed the document on first reading, it will have to be considered again at the council’s next meeting before it can be adopted and put into effect.
