Volunteer Hosts Can Camp for Free at State Parks, Forests and Recreational Properties

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is seeking outdoorsy types who enjoy working with others to serve as campground hosts at state parks, forests and recreation properties in 2019.

In exchange for their services, volunteers have the ability to camp at their site for free. According to the DNR, hosts work a minimum of 20 hours per week. The length of volunteer time varies at properties based on the number of applicants as well as the amount and type of work that’s required.

By summertime, most schedules are full so the best time to contact your preferred property is before April 1st. In order to be eligible, a volunteer application must be completed and submitted.

To access the application and to view a complete list of site availability and detailed information about hosting duties, visit the DNR’s Campground Hosts information page.
