Some major accomplishments in Argos were highlighted during last Wednesday’s town council meeting.
Councilwoman Suzanne Umbaugh told the council that while going over the town’s comprehensive plan at a recent Task Force meeting, members were reflecting on the goals that have been achieved so far.
She mentioned a few of those, highlighting the construction of the Manufacturing Center on Dewey Street as well as the efforts that were made to bring fiber optic internet capabilities into town and increasing the amount of festivals and activities.
Umbaugh added that another notable improvement is that the Plan Commission is meeting regularly and members are being educated about their responsibilities from County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt.
She also discussed a few of the town’s ongoing projects such as the future installation of way finding signs, the community center project at the 4H Fairgrounds and development within the Colonial Estates subdivision.
Umbaugh shared another project idea that has been discussed by the council in the past which came up during the Task Force meeting. In order to assist with their ‘shop local’ initiative, Umbaugh explained that the owner of Red Door Marketing, Kerri Langdon Martin, is willing to put together a directory that would include all of the businesses in Argos.
Umbaugh stated that this could potentially be added to the town website and noted that it would not only be valuable resource but it would also show local businesses that they’re appreciated by the town officials.
