Plymouth School Proposed Referendum Question Approved by DLGF

The proposed Plymouth School Corporation operating referendum will be on the May Primary Municipal Election ballot in Marshall County.

Marshall County Clerk Deb VanDeMark informed the Marshall County Election Board members on Tuesday morning that the Department of Local Government Finance approved the wording of the referendum question earlier this month.

VanDeMark added that this will change the ballot for the May Primary Municipal Election ballot as voters who don’t typically vote in the Municipal Election cycle will get to vote.

Voters in the Center 1, Center 2, Center 3, and Center 4 precincts will be voting for the city positions open on the ballot in addition to the referendum question.  Voters in the Center 5, Center 6, Center 7, Center 8, West 1, West 2 and West 3 precincts will have an opportunity to vote only on the Plymouth Community School Corporation operating referendum question.

The proposed question reads:  “For the eight (8) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Plymouth Community School Corporation impose a property tax rate that does not exceed nineteen cents ($.19) on each one hundred ($100) of assessed valuation that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of funding student safety initiatives, mental health support and programs, and attracting and retaining teachers?”

VanDeMark commented that with the addition of the referendum to the ballot, an additional 6,000 voters will be able to vote in the May Primary Municipal Election.
