The Marshall County Election Board members discussed the Primary Municipal Election candidate filings when they met on Tuesday morning.
According to Clerk Deb VanDeMark, three municipalities filed ordinances to hold a primary election which include Culver, Bourbon and Argos. The Town of Bremen and City of Plymouth do not have to file ordinance as there is a larger population in those communities.
While the Town of Argos did file an ordinance to be placed on the Primary Municipal Election ballot, those candidates will not be on the ballot as there are no contested races. Clerk-Treasurer and Town Council seats will be featured on the ballot for Culver and Bourbon.
On top of that, since Culver Town Council member Joel Samuelson is seeking another term as a Libertarian candidate, VanDeMark said his name will not appear on the Primary Municipal Election ballot as Libertarian candidates traditionally do not show up on the Primary ballot. If another candidate in that party files for the same At-Large seat by Aug. 1, a town convention will be scheduled to determine the single party candidate to appear on the General Municipal Election ballot.
The Primary Municipal Election is Tuesday, May 7.
