John Glenn students will go to school one more day this school year in order to make up days missed due to inclement weather.
Superintendent Richard Reese told the John Glenn School Board members Tuesday night that the Department of Education sent out a memo on make up days earlier this week.
“Everybody is going to have to make up, in theory, five days,” explained Reese. “On the sixth day, you make that up also, but the seventh day you don’t, eighth you do, and ninth day you don’t. We had five days built in and we’ve already made up one day. So, in theory, we have missed six. We have four days left so we will be adding a day at the end of the school year if we have no other days.”
Even though the schools were closed during the arctic blast last week, Reese said the custodial staff members were at each of the schools every day around the clock to ensure there were no problems, under the leadership of Maintenance Director Shelby Gibson.
“We had some things that shut off, fans had stopped, things that kicked off, and folks were right there to take care of that. We avoided any major issues.”
The school board members and administrative staff expressed their appreciation to the custodial staff for their extra effort.
