The Bremen Town Council members continue to pursue the purchase of 121 S. Jackson Street for the purpose of providing a gathering space for the town.
Town Attorney Anthony Wagner told town council members this week that he’s made some headway in contacting creditors about the potential sale of the property. He will also contact the mortgage lender to get an update as well. If the mortgage lender gets its money, then it may be tougher to purchase the property.
Wagner said the best case scenario, and the most secure way, is to pay off the creditors and buy the property at the price the town offers according to the appraisal. If the property goes to sheriff’s sale, then the town could put in a bid there.
The Town Council members hope to purchase the property in order to demolish the house there and create a gathering space. Initial plans are to build a roofed pavilion there in order to include another spot in town with a sheltered place for the farmer’s market or another location for community events.
The property is currently is in foreclosure proceedings.
