Bids for Plymouth’s Candy Lane storm sewer project came in higher than expected. Five bids were opened during Monday’s board of works meeting. Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver says they ranged from $1,047,000 up to $1,278,000, not including some optional work.
That led to some concerns during Monday’s city council meeting. “They asked what the engineer’s estimate was, and it was actually $809,000, so the bids were about $200,000 higher than what they were expecting,” Xaver says. “So [Utility Superintendent] Donnie Davidson said that he was going to review the project engineering costs and see if they could figure out why there was a difference.” An earlier estimate had put the cost at $651,000, but it was determined that additional work was necessary.
Meanwhile, two quotes were received for a new street department truck. Xaver says Country Auto offered a truck for just over $35,000, while Oliver Ford’s quote came in under $33,000. Both dealerships also offered trade-in allowances.
The truck quotes and the sewer project bids will all be reviewed, before a recommendation is made at the next board of works meeting.
