Plymouth School Board Approves Reoccuring Transfer Resolution

Plymouth School Board members passed a reoccurring transfer resolution when they met last week.

The resolution permits $283,000 to be transferred from the education fund into the operation fund on a monthly basis. The resolution was required since there have been some changes to the way funds have to be stored and spent.

Before the state-wide school budget reorganization, tuition money was placed in the general fund. Schools could spend that money for various reasons including safety and security, technology, business, finance, and funding for custodial operations and the office of the superintendent.

However, after the change, school officials were required to put all money received from student tuition into the education fund. Since money in that fund can only be utilized for costs related to student instruction and learning, a portion of the money has to be transferred to the operations fund regularly so it can be used for other purposes.

The resolution was passed with a unanimous vote.
