Plymouth High School to Host 7th Annual Dance Marathon, Donations Can be Made Ahead of Time

Update from Plymouth Community Schools Marketing Director Judi Lykowski: “The Plymouth High School Dance Marathon event scheduled for this afternoon at PHS has been canceled due to inclement weather in the Muncie and Indianapolis areas that is preventing key members of the Riley Children’s Foundation and the Ball State University Dance Marathon team from traveling to Plymouth. Donations can still be made online by going directly to donate.rileykids.org/phsdm19. We will keep you updated on when the PHSDM is rescheduled.”

Plymouth High School will host the 7th annual Dance Marathon to benefit Riley Children’s Hospital this Saturday.

According to school officials, on January 12th, students from all walks of life will come together to dance, enjoy some snacks, participate activities but most importantly, they’ll listen to stories that Riley kids have to share.

The fundraiser will run from noon until 9 p.m. and students will keep busy the entire time, without sitting down for the full 9-hour marathon.

Plymouth High School’s chapter of Dance Marathon was founded in 2007 by sisters Hannah and Amy Jacobs. The girls apparently wanted to find a way to give back to Riley Hospital for everything they did for their family since Hannah spent time there being treated for spina bifida.

In the first year of the fundraiser more than $11,000 was donated. Over the years, a total of $186,645.15 has been collected for the hospital.

This year’s goal is $40,000 and the success of the Dance Marathon depends significantly on charitable contributions from community members. Everyone is invited to pitch in as much as they can to help this incredible cause. Any amount will help make a difference for the children and families who spend time at Riley.

The fundraising total will be announced in a public forum at a boys’ varsity basketball game. Event organizers shared that the public will be able to contribute donations during the first half of the game.

The money raised at the game will be added to the grand amount collected during the Dance Marathon. The halftime show will feature the students involved in the fundraiser who will perform a synchronized dance. That will be followed up by students from the Ball State Dance Marathon revealing the PHS fundraising total for the year.
