Bremen residents may be getting new water and electric meters.
Water and Street Department Superintendent Alex Mikel told the Bremen Town Council members that the current, older meter reader devices are no longer capable for repairs as parts are obsolete. Mikel, Electric Department Superintendent Jay Stoneburner, Wastewater Superintendent Matt Cunningham, and Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer are looking into a new meter reading system.
It will be a phase-in process where only a few reader devices will be upgraded each year. The entire cost to replace all meters with the software and other components is about $450,000 which isn’t feasible.
The first phase will be about $15,000 which will include the software and meter reading equipment. The cost will be split between the Water, Wastewater and Electric Department funds.
More discussions concerning the project will be forthcoming.
