Bremen Park Superintendent to Apply for Trails Grant

The Bremen Park Superintendent will apply for the state’s Recreational Trails Grant Program.

Park Superintendent Brian Main explained to the Bremen Town Council members on Monday that matching grant funds are available in the Governor’s rollout grant program that aims to provide public access to trails.

“We’re thinking that out of West Park there would be an opportunity to tie in with the crushed asphalt trail that the Holy Walk put in out there, tie in with the Shumaker property south of the park system, try to push to the east, and potentially try to tie in to the school’s property near the baseball field,” said Main.

He asked to seek a $200,000 grant that could include property acquisition which is needed to move forward with a proposed plan. It would also include paving trails as the purpose of the project.

There are four grant rounds this year for this funding.  The town’s match would be 20 percent of funds awarded.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy recommended that Main work with JPR Engineers on design concepts as they are contracted with the Town of Bremen.
