The Argos Town Council members appointed Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney to the position of Utility Clerk for 2019 when they met last Wednesday.
According to Mullaney, the position of clerk-treasurer is an elected one and she gets about ¼ of her salary serving in that capacity.
The remainder of her salary comes from serving as utility clerk, which is a position that is appointed annually. That position is funded through a portion of the revenue generated from the utilities, with the majority coming from the electric company.
Mullaney noted that there were a couple of resolutions presented by Town Attorney Derek Jones that were adopted during the meeting.
The documents state that the appointee has to work 5 days for 40 hours a week as utility clerk and they have the ability to perform clerk-treasurer duties during same time. She added that language is only relevant if the clerk-treasurer and utility clerk happen to be the same person.
During her time as clerk-treasurer, Mullaney has also always served as the utility clerk.
However, officials have it set up in such a way so if a new clerk-treasurer is elected and it is determined that the person wouldn’t be able to perform the duties of utility clerk, they wouldn’t be responsible for that position and council members could then make their own appointment.
