North Liberty fifth grade students had a surprise for John Glenn School Board members this week.
Fifth grade teacher Ken Poling explained that during the first semester of the school year Guidance Counselor Melanie Heiser has been doing a whole series of conflict resolution that pertains to responding and dealing with others. Poling said a section of that series deals with gratitude.
“We wanted to extend our gratitude to you by presenting you with a gift and a card,” said Poling. “Inside the card it says, ‘great people are like candles. A candle commits itself to sharing light with others. Thank you for lighting our way throughout the world’. Each of your names will be on this gift.”
The students then presented a Christmas ornament and a card to all members of the school board and Principal Randy Romer. The school board members, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the students for being so thoughtful in this season of gratitude.
