The Culver Police Department is getting a new vehicle. The town council Tuesday approved the purchase of a Dodge Durango from Country Auto Center in Plymouth. It will cost just under $26,500, after trade-in.
Police Chief Wayne Bean said that was the lowest of the three vehicle quotes he received. “It came in like nearly $8,000 difference, which is rare to see that,” he explained. “But when I walked into the Ford dealership, they told me right away it’s five or six grand more.” He added that the Dodge also comes with a better engine and a better trade-in deal.
The cost of the vehicle will come out of both the 2018 and 2019 budgets. Council members also agreed to let Bean encumber more than $3,100 to have R&B Sales equip the new vehicle with lights.
Bean also got council approval to buy a computer, stand, and other related equipment for an existing vehicle. “It’s because we are using it a lot, and it is not equipped with that,” he said. “And I don’t like to get into the thing of swapping stuff back and forth because that’s when it gets damaged. I just want it to be a part of that vehicle.” The police department will buy the computer equipment from MobileTEK Consulting for just under $2,500.
