The Bremen Town Council members discussed employee health insurance Monday night where several employees were in attendance to see how the council would vote in the matter.
As explained by a representative of the insurance company, the employees will be offered insurance with a Health Savings Account, or their current PPO coverage. In previous discussions held with the employees, the employees were happy with the HSA option rather than PPO. A single employee would get $3,500 a year and a family would have $4,500 in HSA with deductibles of $3,000 and $6,000, respectively. PPO deductibles would be a bit higher.
Overall, the HSA plan would save the town about $60,000.
Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer said about two people may remain with the PPO plan, which is the minimum amount that is needed to be able to continue to offer that policy.
The change in insurance and when new employees may sign on to insurance and for the length of time they would need to stay with the town in order to participate in the HSA policy would be included in an updated employee handbook for 2019.
The Bremen Town Council members approved the HSA and PPO plans as presented. Anglemyer said the paperwork will get started. The council members thanked the employees for attending the meeting.
