Officials in the town of Argos want to make sure they’re taking all relevant factors into account before they officially amend the Town’s Golf Cart Ordinance.
After holding multiple discussions over the matter, Town Council members voted to add utility vehicles (UTVs) into the Town’s Golf Cart ordinance back in October.
However, before any changes can be made to the ordinance, Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said a detailed vehicle description must be developed to avoid any potential confusion.
“They now have to go in and specify what defines a UTV to the Town of Argos,” she continued, “because it has a very broad definition according to the state.”
Mullaney noted that the description will include requirements such as a steering wheel, headlights and turn signals along with any other vital elements that would make the vehicle safe to travel on Town roadways.
She added that a draft ordinance will be considered by council members in a future meeting.
Mulaney explained, “Council member Dylan Colburn is going to do some legwork and come up with a draft of what he feels the council is looking for.”
In the meantime, residents are still not permitted to drive UTVs within the Town of Argos.
