Farm lease bids were opened by Argos Town Council members when they met last week. Members previously held a public hearing over the lease during a November meeting and accepted bids up until Wednesday, December 5th.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney previously shared that the farm lease is something that Town officials review every year. However, due to some development in the area, there was a bit of a reduction in the amount of acreage being offered in the lease.
When the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation constructed the Manufacturing Center on Dewey Street they took ownership of about 17 acres of the farmland that was previously owned by the Town. Now there are approximately 54 acres remaining for farmers to utilize.
According to Clerk-Treasurer Mullaney, the contract was awarded to William Voreis during last Wednesday’s meeting. Voreis submitted a bid offering to pay $171.29 per acre.
