The Urey Middle School Spell Bowl Team has another state championship.
Principal Mark Maudlin said the team competed this past Saturday at Purdue University at West Lafayette and won the Class 2 State Championship.
“We saw a tremendous amount of growth in the entire team and that really showed off in the results that we saw at state because of their hard work and their growth,” said Maudlin. “I think they kind of surprised themselves because we moved up a class this year because of our increased enrollment. We went from Class 3 to Class 2 which is against bigger schools and we were still able to enjoy the same success this year that we’ve enjoyed in the past.”
It’s the school’s sixth state championship in Spell Bowl since the 2006-2007 school year.
