The Plymouth City Council members considered a resolution to declare certain real estate to be within an Economic Revitalization Area for American Containers, Inc. at 2526 Western Avenue.
Marshall County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Jerry Chavez reminded council members that this is the first step in the tax abatement process.
Michael Isban from American Containers, Inc. explained that they are looking to expand their operations and upgrading processes by renovating a piece of equipment that would better assemble products for food processing companies. The quicker setup time would improve the output of product.
Another piece of equipment is being developed that would assist workers in putting together a protective product piece when shipping products. The process would go from outputting less than one unit per minute to five pieces a minute. Also, the implementation of the equipment will involve more employees.
Isban said these projects will help American Containers, Inc. at the Plymouth plant get an edge to grow the business on the west coast.
The Plymouth City Council members unanimously approved the resolution. The company representatives will likely ask for a tax abatement in the near future in order to assist them in making these improvements.
