The Marshall County Highway Department will be getting a new chipper box and distributor.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters presented the commissioners with a quote for the equipment. He said he received one quote for the chipper box and distributor truck, but another quote did not meet all of the specifications as outlined in the paperwork in a request for proposal notification.
The chipper box was quoted at $313,500 while the distributor truck was at $227,800. Peters thought that the highway department could sell the current equipment at a better price than trading it in at the value specified in the proposal. The county may utilize the Indiana government auction service to dispose of the current equipment.
The money to pay for the equipment will be taken from the Cumulative Capital Development Fund. Whatever money is collected from the sale of the current equipment, it will partially reimburse that fund.
A chipper box aids in the chip sealing process as well as spraying emulsion and putting down stone. A distributor truck helps with fog sealing chip sealed roads.
The highway department would take possession of the equipment at the end of April.
