Three people were arrested in Lapaz on Wednesday night following a lengthy multi-agency drug investigation where a large quantity of heroin was reportedly confiscated as well as assault rifles.
Demitrie Davis, 26, of Mishawaka, and Edward Webb, 24, of South Bend, were arrested on a preliminary charge of dealing in a narcotic drug in an amount of at least 10 grams as a Level 2 Felony. Police say they were taken into custody after Marshall County Undercover Narcotics Team officers found them in the parking lot of a Lapaz restaurant. An arrest warrant was executed in the event. A quantity of heroin and an AR 22 weapon were reportedly found inside the vehicle.
Later, a search warrant was executed where 38-year-old Daniel Ortiz, of Elkhart, was located. Officers allegedly found close to a half-pound of heroin at the location as well as an AR 15 weapon. As part of the investigaiton, Ortiz faces two felony counts of dealing in methamphetamine and one count each of possession of methamphetamine as a Level 3 and Level 4 felony and one felony count of maintaining a common nuisance. According to Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman, several of the counts involve enhancement on allegations of the presence of firearms and on one occasion the presence of children and the location of a park.
Davis, Webb and Ortiz were booked into the Marshall County Jail.
