The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be applying for a grant to purchase a new recorder.
Matt Pitney brought the proposal to the commissioners Monday morning who said Indiana was approved for a Next Generation 911 grant, but the amount hasn’t been set yet. He does want to apply for a grant once is available. It is a pass-through grant.
He said most of the department’s equipment is Next Generation 911 ready to go, but they are in need of a new recorder. The current recorder is at the end of its life and parts are no longer available for it. It records all of the 911 calls, radio traffic and all administration lines.
Pitney noted that the current phone system is also at its end of life and he hopes that a new system can be purchased soon.
Pitney said the immediate need is a new recorder and it could cost upwards of $100,000. The grant would cover 60 percent of the cost while the county would be responsible for 40 percent. If the grant is awarded, the county will have four years to complete the project.
The commissioners unanimously approved motion to allow Pitney and the Marshall County Sheriff’s department to apply for the grant when it becomes available. A signed letter of support was also provided.
