Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson asked the county council’s permission to move forward with a Marshall County Sewer District Task Force.
Stinson explained that the task force will look into the feasibility of having a sewer district that would encompass all of Marshall County. She said the sewer district would have the jurisdiction to correct problems that are currently being experienced.
“We’re looking at probably 12 to 18 months where we’ll go look at other counties and see what other counties have as far as regional sewer districts or cluster systems,” said Stinson. “What are they doing to repair these sites? We’ll look at the feasibility, financially, of what it is to bring a regional sewer district to this area.”
She noted that an in-depth DNR study in 2005 showed that the Four Lakes in Marshall County, Cook Lake, Holem Lake, Kreighbaum Lake, and Mill Pond Lake, are contaminated with septic.
The county commissioners last week supported the formation of the task force and appointed Mike Delp to be the representative. The county council followed suit and appointed Jim Masterson to be on the task force.
