A high-speed pursuit that began in Marshall County and ended in a usually heavily-traveled intersection in Knox resulted in the arrest of the driver.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, a call came into the Marshall County Dispatch Center at 1:30 a.m. ET where the caller reported a suspicious pickup truck in the area of State Road 8 and West County Line Road. A single gunshot was also reportedly heard.
A sheriff’s deputy located the pickup truck in the area of West County Line Road and 14B Road. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Alejandro Loera, sped away, according to the report. The vehicle traveled northbound on Upas Road and then to State Road 8 where speeds of over 100 mph were documented as the pursuit headed west toward Knox.
Police say the Loera’s vehicle suddenly came to a stop in the intersection of Heaton Street and Culver Road in Knox where three adults were detained and a six-year-old child was placed into safe custody.
Loera, of Culver, was taken to the Marshall County Jail where he was booked on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, neglect of a dependent, and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.
