The Culver School Board is expected to finalize a policy on the use of metal detectors tonight. The school corporation received three handheld metal detectors, as part of the state’s program to provide them free of charge to Indiana’s schools. The proposed policy stipulates that the devices may only be used by school administrators in cases where there is reasonable suspicion, according to Superintendent Karen Shuman.
In other business tonight, the school corporation’s 2019 budget will be up for adoption. It calls for an Education Fund of almost $5.8 million, but that could be supplemented by another $1.6 million in local property tax revenues, pending the results of next month’s referendum. Next year’s proposed Operations Fund would allow school officials to spend almost $4.4 million.
Also during tonight’s meeting, board members will consider an amendment to the corporation’s bus replacement plan and a service agreement with Go Solutions Group. Tonight’s Culver School Board meeting starts at 7:00 EDT at the Culver Schools Administration Office, following a study session to discuss energy savings at 6:00.
