More paperwork was approved last week for the Laporte Street footbridge project in Plymouth slated for 2020.
City Engineer Rick Gaul told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members that the Local Public Agency/Consultant preliminary engineering contract for the project was ready for approval. The compensation is just under $285,000. VS Engineering was previously selected to do the work on the project.
The board members unanimously approved that contract. The board members also affirmed the agreement between the city and INDOT for the cost of the preliminary engineering contract. INDOT is expected to pay 80 percent of the contract.
The city was recently awarded $1.3 million in grant funds to restore the historic footbridge. The city will fund the balance of the estimated $2 million cost of the project.
According to city officials, the downtown landmark will be reconstructed with a new bridge deck and railing, repair of the superstructure and substructure, full cleaning and painting of all components, and new ADA accessible approaches.
