September 17-21 is Septic Smart Week.
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson presented a proclamation to the commissioners that raises awareness on septic systems. They unanimously approved signing the proclamation for the observation next week.
It’s an EPA initiative and educates septic system owners on proper care of the unit and the environment.
On top of a rather large information site at the Farmer’s Market in Plymouth on Sept. 15, Stinson will host several workshops during Septic Smart week next week.
“It’s basically a septic 101 – trying to teach homeowners how to live on that septic system and how to maintain that system,” said Stinson. “They don’t last forever so they’ll learn how to increase the longevity of their septic system.”
