State road crews will close State Road 10 between State Road 117 and U.S. 31 in the Argos area beginning today to conduct chip seal operations. If the weather doesn’t hinder work, the road should reopen at the end of the week.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, state road detours must be on state-maintained roads only. Local county roads may be used for local traffic. High profile traffic should stay on the official detour that utilizes state highways.
Chip sealing extends the life of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultraviolet degradation and other damaging exposures.
When the road reopens, INDOT officials urge caution in the area as loose stone will be present on the roadway during the initial cure of the asphalt. Stones may cause damage to windshields and paint on vehicles. It is suggested to slow speed on freshly chip sealed roads and allow additional space between vehicles.
