Walls are starting to go up at the new Lincoln Junior High School. Project Manager Derek Anderson told the Plymouth School Board Tuesday that the foundation work is done at the new gym and the first half of the two-story academic wing.
Masons began working on the walls in mid-August, starting with the gym section. Anderson explained that there are currently about three masons working on the project, but he hopes to increase that number to about 15 in the coming weeks. That will let them split into teams, working on other parts of the new school. Anderson noted that finding masons is a challenge, but the project is helped by the fact that there are about seven masons who live right in Plymouth who have expressed interest.
Meanwhile, the steel beams that will support the gym’s brick walls are on-site, and underground plumbing has been installed.
Overall, Anderson told the school board that he’s happy with the work so far. He said the project remains on-schedule, helped by the fact that rainy weather has mostly been limited to nights and weekends. Anderson’s goal is to have the first floor of the school’s academic wing enclosed by winter time.
