Budding businesses are bound to benefit from a generous donation provided to the Bremen Public School Entrepreneurship Program.
This is an opportunity that’s offered at the elementary, middle and high school. Superintendent Dr. Jim White previously shared that the goal behind the program is to plant the seeds of entrepreneurship into the minds of students early on.
Recently, the school board approved a $2,500 donation from Rick Miller, of Miller Insurance to assist with associated costs at the high school level.
Dr. White explained, “They need money to prototype their ideas. Then at the end of this project, they compete in kind of like a ‘Shark Tank’ environment for basically a prize that says okay, we can give them a little bit of money to take that prototype and go forward and try to actually start their business.”
Dr. White described Miller as a “community champion” for this program and indicated that school officials are very grateful for the donation, as it will help to incentive these school-aged entrepreneurs even more.
Bremen’s program is the first of its kind in Indiana and is modeled after similar programs in Illinois. Though no other Hoosier schools offer something similar at this time, Dr. White said he expects others to incorporate this type of opportunity into their curriculum in the near future.
