Argos Town Council members approved a resolution during their meeting Wednesday night that provides the Town’s support for the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar initiative.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that in the four years following the potential designation, the Town of Argos would provide a local match of approximately $280,000 during that time frame to cover the cost of the major projects they want to accomplish.
Mullaney said if the designation is received, the Town’s projects would include the installation of a series of trails, a housing development and the addition of more sidewalks.
Mullaney said that the Town Council plans to provide a match of $160,000 for the first phase of the trails project that would link the parks together to create a more “walkable” town. She explained, “It would include a walking trail from Community Park all the way over to Pond Park. Then it would be a walking trail around the pond at Pond Park along with possibly a pavilion and then it would go from Pond Park straight through the 4-H Fairgrounds to West Street.”
Mullaney added that $80,000 would be set aside for the housing development and then $40,000 would be put toward the project where sidewalks would be installed along the roads that don’t currently have them.
Mullaney noted that this is all hypothetical at the moment since the designation hasn’t been received, but Argos officials had to have some concrete plans and figures in place to include in their portion of County’s regional development plan which is due this month.
