Efforts to bring a School Resource Officer into the Argos Community School Corporation continue to move forward.
Town Council members provided their support for the idea when they met earlier this month. School Superintendent Ned Speicher said that School Board members considered the matter at their meeting on Monday.
Speicher explained, “The school board did the same thing, they had a motion and approved stating that they’d work on the concept of having a School Resource Officer.” He continued, “They’ll be coordinating the details of employment with the Town of Argos and working through the Argos Police Department on getting School Resource Officer Training.”
To help fund the officer’s pay, Speicher said school officials are looking into a grant through the Department of Homeland Security. They’re hoping to get all the details worked out by the end of the year. If all goes according to plan, they’re anticipating January 1st, 2019 as the start date for the SRO.
