School starts next week for students in the John Glenn School Corporation. The middle and high school building principals praised the maintenance staff in their efforts to get the buildings ready for students.
Middle School Principal Mark Maudlin commented that the chillers were recently installed and are working to cool off the building from the summer heat.
The school board members approved the employment of several teachers to start off the year on a positive note.
Board member William Groves commented that some of the resignations received in Tuesday night’s packet are really close to the first day which leaves administrators scrambling to find teachers to fill the slots. Superintendent Richard Reese said a lot of the teachers turned in resignations as soon as they knew they were approved for employment at other corporations which is beyond their control. He added that it’s becoming harder and harder to find licensed, certified teachers to work at the standard of employment the corporation is looking to hire to keep their level of quality education to the students. He believes it will only get harder as the years go by as many students are not looking to major in education in college.
Reese does anticipate a slight increase in enrollment. The number of transfers students is over 450 and there may be more by the time classes get started.
The first day for teachers at the John Glenn School Corporation is Monday, Aug. 13 and the first day for students is Tuesday, Aug. 14.
