The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members affirmed a demolition order at 801 Sycamore Street when they met this week.
Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds said that he made an effort to contact the homeowner regarding the order for demolition.
“I sent out an order to take action on this property,” said Hammonds. “I sent it to two different addresses and they both came back unsigned. We also advertised it in the paper so we could have this hearing tonight and get this affirmed.”
During their earlier August meeting, the board members learned that trees were growing through the disheveled building and it was simply deemed unsafe. Hammonds said that kids had been inside the building, but it was boarded up to prevent potential injuries.
The board members unanimously affirmed the demolition.
The homeowner has 30 days to hire a contractor to demolish the structure. If it is not taken care of within that time, the city will hire a contractor to do the work. If the latter is the case, a lien will be placed against the property in order to pay for the work.
