It’s shaping up to be a busy semester for Culver FFA students. FFA leaders discussed their upcoming fall activities with the Culver School Board last week.
One of the first big events was last Tuesday’s crop scouting conference. Among other things, it required students to identify the staging of corn and soybean crops, as well as insect problems, disease issues, and herbicide damage. This week, attention turns to soil practice, with the area soil contest taking place at the end of September.
Crop practices begin in October. Between then and December, FFA students will have to memorize 71 varieties of seed, 68 weeds, and 27 types of disease and damage, among other items. Upcoming Culver FFA fundraisers include ice cream sales at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival this coming Saturday, a pork chop dinner on September 21, and the fruit sale in November.
