High-speed internet is no longer a luxury, it’s more of a requirement and that’s something that Bourbon leaders recognize, according to Town Council President Les McFarland.
McFarland said that improving internet capabilities within the town was a topic covered quite thoroughly during last Thursday’s business luncheon.
McFarland said that as the Town considers housing as one of their potential projects to include on the community’s Regional Stellar Community application, they need to keep in mind that access to reliable internet is more than something that people want, it’s something they expect. He noted that with more people working from home or relying on the internet for school, officials want to be able to serve residents adequately.
McFarland added that officials have been working to bring high-speed internet into the area for the last few years. He said talks with Marshall County Fiber, a partnership between Marshall County REMC and RTC Communications, are making that possibility seem more obtainable.
Communication and coordination with Marshall County Fiber about improving internet capabilities within the Town of Bourbon will continue and the possibility will be discussed more in future meetings.
