A reminder about an upcoming architecture tour was provided at last week’s Argos town council meeting.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney stated that the council members issued a reminder that the Marshall County Historical Society will be hosting the “Meet the Foker’s” Stonework Driving Tours on Sunday, July 29th. Mullaney added that the tours will be conducted in open-air trams borrowed from the Blueberry Festival.
In a previous interview, Historical Society Assistant Director Sue Irwin shared that the tour will focus on buildings that were designed by Argos Resident William Lake Foker, an accomplished stonemason of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
According to Irwin, “William Foker is not a well-known name, but he ought to be because his stonework is spectacular. We just simply want to showcase some of his stonework.”
An announcement provided by Mindy Langdon, community relations for the Historical Society Museum, noted that patrons can enjoy the unique artistry of Foker’s cut and uncut stone creations on the foundations, porches and chimneys of historic homes in town.
The tours will be 90-minutes long and the trams will depart from the Argos Community Park at 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Langdon stated that the trams will take off from the north end of the park, closer to the Marshall Street entrance.
Tickets for the tour will be available the day of the event or they can be picked up from the Argos Public Library or the Marshall County Museum beforehand. The cost for a ticket is $10 per individual or $20 per family, while children 6 and under get to attend the tour for free.
