The John Glenn School Board members approved the purchase of new vinyl flooring for the cafeteria in the Walkerton Elementary School and in the North Liberty Elementary School.
According to Maintenance Director Shelby Gibson, carpeting was installed in both cafeterias about 19 years ago. While the staff has been able to maintain the carpeting to the best of their ability, it is time to replace the flooring to provide a better surface that better suits the environment.
Superintendent Richard Reese said it’s rather odd to install carpeting in a cafeteria, but it did cut down on the sound decibel that is normally quite high in an elementary school setting.
The vinyl flooring will cost just over $38,200. It will be installed during Christmas break.
