The Culver School Board has finalized book rental fees and meal prices for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Karen Shuman recommended Monday that book rental remain at $135 for sixth grade students. Seventh and eighth graders will be charged a base fee of $130, but there may be additional fees, depending on courses. Meanwhile, fees for students in grades nine through 12 will depend entirely on each student’s particular class schedule. “That cost of a particular textbook is spread over six years, so it’s not like they’re paying for the full textbook,” Shuman explained. “It is pro-rated, per-student, per-year that the textbook has been in use.”
Shuman’s recommended middle/high school book rental fees were unanimously approved by the five board members in attendance Monday. Elementary school book rental fees were approved last month. They range from $84 to $123.
Meanwhile, breakfast and lunch prices will stay the same as last year’s. Shuman said the state initially recommended a 10-to-20-cent increase, but the school corporation was granted an appeal.
