Bremen Library Board Hosts Public Forum

The Bremen Public Library Board members hosted a public forum last week to gather input from residents about what type of improvements they’d like to see at their community library.

Interim Library Director Chris Scandling said the board members are collecting information for a long-term plan for updates the library. Patrons were able to give opinions on what they like about the library and what things they would like to see and improvements.

Scandling said the architect who led the forum had an interactive exercise for those in attendance and the data will be analyzed which will be provided in an upcoming meeting. Scandling noted that the Aug. 27 meeting may be a little early for that report, but discussion may surround the board’s observations from the public forum if the report is not prepared.

The board members have discussed expanding areas of the library including the meeting room and storage space, children’s area and young adult gathering space. Scandling mentioned that the bathrooms should be updated, new carpets are a priority and the parking lot needs to be reconfigured with a alternate traffic pattern.

There have been some upgrades so far with new lighting and other smaller projects.

The board members are hoping that some improvements can be made next year, but that will depend on the recommendation from the architect and funding.
